Obsession in Death - J.D. Robb

Deeply satisfying read. After the clunker that was Thankless in Death and the next two books (Concealed in Death and Festive in Death) being too quiet on the mystery side of the series, it was so good to have the heart pumping and my eyes not leaving the page for fear of missing of iota of action. The story also benefitted from being creepy in a "this could really happen" when it comes to famous people and their fans. There was the big, bold climax to the story that had been missing in the last few books. I also like that the major holidays are over and aren't a distraction to the case. The best part of the book is that Eve didn't figure out who the killer was until the last minute.

There is talk in some review circles that the book was based on the author's frustration with fans that demand the author write Eve in a certain way to fulfill their wishes. I didn't see any of that frustration or spite for fans in the book, so I am guessing it is hearsay. Overall, so happy that after 40 books, I am still enjoying the ride, even with a few minor bumps in the road recently. 5 stars.
