I think it went pretty well, even though I am only giving it 3.5 stars. I would definitely read more of Steinbeck's work. This book was read on a bus trip to and from Warwick Castle, with time left over for a nap on the trip back to base (107 pages). The plot sucked me in from the get-go and kept the momentum going. The scenery and setting of Northern California (I had visited every town mentioned since I spent five years stationed at Beale AFB) was crisp and accurate. Over all, solid storytelling. My one gripe was that I did not feel a connection to any of the characters; I was truly an observer to the story unfolding rather than a silent witness in the thick of things.
It was nice to read about dry, sunny California since here in England we are getting hit with a week of non-stop rain.
