Benny Banks, a cattle rancher, has long been an expert card player. After a big win lands him a woman’s hand in marriage, he welcomes her in his home and learns life now has greater meaning.
Once two lonely people, these destined lovers stand against town gossips and jealous hearts conspiring to keep them apart.
Review
The story is too short so the change in the heroine's feelings toward the hero gave me serious whiplash. Also, I hate the romance trope of isolated heroine - the scene in town when she is physically assaulted by another woman and nobody stood up for her was distasteful and just not realistic to me. The hero made his gamble out to be a way to save the heroine from a very ugly situation, but he manipulated her and her situation from the get-go. I felt that is was too late for him to court his wife after he married her. Overall, it was a quick but not fun reading experience.
